Craig Nagasawa uses ancient Japanese painting techniques combined with contemporary painting narratives of escape, adventure, humor, and freedom. Nagasawa’s works have been exhibited widely both in the United States and internationally. He has been the subject of solo exhibitions in San Francisco, at the Braunstein/Quay Gallery and at the University of California, Berkeley. He is now represented by Bivins Gallery, Dallas, TX. He has taught at UC Berkeley for 24 years where his classes combine traditional techniques from Japan with contemporary art ideas. Nagasawa was the director of nonprofit community arts programs, ArtBridge and BtheArts where he designed programs that taught the pedagogy of arts education to UC Berkeley students. These students then brought arts curriculums to underserved K-12 public schools. Nagasawa was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of California at Berkeley in 2013.
